In this space, we’re excited to tell you a story of freedom. It’s the story of a dozen people deeply involved in nurturing a young FinTech company.
They were working well, but they felt it was time to get to a new level of organizational alignment between their identity and values and the market dynamics.

Leverage Points

The first time we were in touch with this company was October 2017.
That was when we started to get to know them, the purpose behind their idea, and the work they were doing to make it sustainable and thrive.
January 2018 arrived and we met the whole team to establish our “iteration 0” in order to understand their trajectory and discover the leverage points we needed to work on to support the next natural step in their evolution.

Rhythm of evolution

From the beginning we understood we had in front of us a dynamic and advanced team. The first thing we did together was to make more readable how the company was producing value and how to orient themselves in the living complexity of their work.
With that in hand, we started to help them tune their rhythm of evolution according to their ecosystem and focusing on the system of retrospectives for continuous improvement.

Decision-making

Following that came work on decision-making. While in traditional companies decisional power is often positional and clear, in this case decisional power was implicit. It required frequent and open conversations among people, and so our work has been to make them aware of the breadth and depth of the topic. All this resulted in the introduction of an entire new framework, giving them the chance to work on their best shared solutions, with the knowledge and the experience to update it every time were needed.

Adaptive organization design

While taking these steps, we challenged the whole team to discover new ways of business in order to recognize new opportunities, shape unexplored dynamics and relations, and to crystallize the chosen business model preparing the ground for their adaptive organization design , which was their most important need at this crucial moment of their journey.

Distributed workshop

If it’s true we have to work to make the best of each team at a given moment, we can’t forget that our work has to be aligned with the identity and the dynamics of the team we’re working with.
That’s why, in addition to deep and key face-to-face meetings, we have chosen to design distributed workshops for them and to support them with virtual tools throughout our whole path together, in alignment with their distributed work environment.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This young company is working in the highly regulated and bureaucratic context of finance.
Despite this, they have chosen to grow without limiting their potential. In fact, on the opposite, they have decided to embrace a value-centered, iterative and adaptive approach, finding their own unique way to make a difference in their context. And we are proud to be by their side during this challenge.
